Smashbox Cherry Smoke Palette Review

Today I went to the Ulta store in Homedell, NJ with my boyfriend.  I had every intention of purchasing Too Faced's Country Palette, despite the mixed reviews on it, but it was entirely sold out.  Bummer, right.  Now, Will, in his infinite masculinity, does try to understand my wanderlust through makeup stores, but he was already casting commiserating glances at the only other husband in the store.  While I was busy lamenting over the lack of the palette I wanted, he nonchalantly turns to the side, picks up the tester and says, "Here, this one's the same."

It was not the SAME, but it DID have similar colors and more usable shades for my tastes.  It was only $3 more... so why not?  So $40 later, I am scurrying back to the Corvette with a new baby to play with.  I know I already updated today but... OMG IT'S SO PRETTY!

So it isn't an exact swap out for Country, but it is really beautiful.  The colors (top to bottom, left to right) are Bare, Unadorned, Shell, Rustic, Oxidize, Topaz, Dark Cocoa, and Ebony.  Below are the swatches without primer--- they're in the same listed order, left to right.

Bare-- this one is a very light matte baby lotion pink.  It shows up really light, but it's a good highlighter shade.
Unadorned-- cool brown with a satin finish.
Shell-- a gold peach with gold shimmer.
Rustic-- a warm rusty brown with a matte finish.
Oxidize-- is a rosy pink with gold shimmer.
Topaz-- cool ash brown with cool gold shimmer.
Dark Cocoa-- deep matte brown.
Ebony-- true matte black.

Now this palette is just gorgeous with a ton of color payoff and very little fallout.  You can do many of the same sweet girly looks that you would be able to achieve with Country, but you can also do more classic and smokey looks.  It has an incredible blend of matte and shimmer shadows that allows for a really perfect balance.

But how is the hold, you ask?  Well, when I got home tonight, I played with it and took the swatches.  That was at about 8pm, and they are still sticking pretty resolutely to my arm without primer.  You'll have to visit my instagram tomorrow (and I will update here) for how it looks actually on the face.  But overall, I am giving this one a 9/10.  It is BEAUTIFUL and has a perfect mix of colors to allow for a variety of looks in all very usable shades.

UPDATE!!

I have been wearing this palette for a few days now and the hold is AMAZING!  There is NO creasing whatsoever and no fallout.  It is absolutely incredible!
